The Mandalorian: Rosario Dawson reportedly cast as Ahsoka Tano

…and it’s casting perfection!

According to an exclusive report by Peter Sciretta of Slashfilm.com, Rosario Dawson has been cast as Ahsoka Tano in Season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Although this report has not been officially confirmed by Disney or Dawson’s reps, and there’s still a small/soul crushing chance it could be wrong, but Slashfilm is solid when it comes to scoops like this. This comes from a reputable website with actual sources–and who claims to have been chasing the the story for at least a month.

Assuming it is true, however, then HOLY CRAP THIS IS AWESOME. Not only is Dawson a fantastic actress with great action chops, but she totally looks the part (minus the orange skin and lekku, of course).

Dawson is also apparently a fan a of the character, tweeting about her desire to play Ahsoka back in 2017. The tweet she quoted has been deleted, but it was a fan asking her to play Ahsoka.

As far as how the character of Ahsoka Tano would fit into The Mandalorian, that’s a little more complicated, but entirely possible.

Excluding the voice cameo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, her last appearance took place following the events of Return of the Jedi. Following the fall of the Empire, she and Sabine Wrenn (by far the best character on Star Wars: Rebels if you ask me) had committed themselves to finding Ezra Bridger.

That would make for a great story, but space whales, Admiral Thrawn, and traveling into other dimensions seems a bit out of place with the tone/setting in The Mandalorian…and if any part of that last sentence confused you, then you’ve got some Star Wars: Rebels to watching to do during the quarantine. For now, here’s a clip of the last scene.

You know what would fit perfectly between Ahsoka and The Mandalorian‘s budding mythology? The Darksaber, which was wielding at one time by Sabine before she bequeathed it to Bo-Katan and the Mandalorian people…who at some point lost it to the villainous Moff Gideon.

Even if this doesn’t end up being how she’s brought into the fold, though, it will be great to see Ahsoka Tano’s first live action appearance brought to live by such a fantastic actress on such a great series.
