The cosmic landscape of DC Comics is about to expand in bold new ways with the launch of Green Lantern Corps on February 12. Written by Jeremy Adams and Morgan Hampton, this series promises to bring back fan-favorite characters, delve into new emotional spectrums, and redefine what it means to wield a power ring.

In an exclusive interview with AIPT, Adams and Hampton shared their journey to collaboration, their creative process, and what fans can expect from the series.

A Galactic Mission

The first issue of Green Lantern Corps reintroduces the team as they face the deadly Fractured Spectrum Saga. John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Jessica Cruz, Guy Gardner, Jo Mullein, and others must come together to stop Sorrow and his master from creating a power battery, setting the stage for a sprawling story that spans the galaxy. With an ensemble cast and plenty of interwoven character arcs, the series looks to balance high-stakes action with the personal struggles of its diverse lineup of Lanterns.

All brought to you by the great galactic creative team of Jeremy Adams (Green Lantern), Morgan Hampton (Cyborg), and Fernando Pasarin (The Flash).

A Collaborative Spark

For Adams and Hampton, their partnership on Green Lantern Corps began serendipitously. “I think we were just shoved together,” Adams joked. But their connection dates back to Morgan’s time in the Milestone Initiative and his work on Cyborg. “I met Mo at Comic-Con,” Adams recalled. “You get a good estimation of somebody—is that person crazy, or is he nice? Luckily, Morgan’s in the middle. No, just kidding!”

For Hampton, teaming up with Adams was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. “I’d been trying to get my next gig at DC,” he said. “I hit up editor Paul Kaminsky, and out of the blue, he asked, ‘Do you want to write a book with Jeremy?’ Of course, I said yes. It’s a chance to learn from Jeremy while working on something so exciting.”

Balancing Styles

Adams and Hampton bring unique strengths to their collaboration. Adams sees Hampton as a philosophical and emotionally grounded writer. “Morgan’s emotionally more mature than I’ll ever be,” Adams admitted. “He explores emotional corners I’d probably overlook. If it were up to me, it’d just be Omega-Bam-Man all the time.”

Hampton, meanwhile, values Adams’ mastery of comic structure. “Jeremy’s taught me so much about pacing, hitting those page turns, and keeping things fun,” Hampton said. “Comics need to be fun first, and then readers stay for the emotional depth and character development.”

Lantern Dynamics

With a large cast that includes John Stewart, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Jo Mullein, Green Lantern Corps focuses on creating dynamic interactions and showcasing the distinct personalities of each character. “We’re trying a rotating spotlight approach,” Adams explained. “The A-plot might focus on one Lantern, but subplots thread through the series, ensuring no fan feels neglected.”

Hampton emphasized their goal of inclusivity. “We want every fan to feel seen. Everyone’s on the table, and we’re making sure to honor the legacy while introducing fresh stories.”

The creative team also leans into the rich backdrop of the universe, filling the pages with vibrant and varied alien characters. “There’s always something interesting happening in the margins, making the universe feel lived-in.” Hampton added, “We want this book to be the go-to for everything happening in DC’s space universe, from Lanterns to Space Cabby.”

The Fractured Spectrum Saga

Central to the series is the Fractured Spectrum Saga, a storyline that builds on Green Lantern #18 and introduces the villain Starbreaker. “Starbreaker is using the Sorrow, an emotional spectrum offshoot,” Adams revealed. “The fractured spectrum leads to new emotions and colors, creating chaos. Without central power batteries, Lanterns must rely on willpower to control these manifestations, or bad things will happen.”

Hampton described this overarching plot as the foundation for character-driven stories. “The personal journeys of the Lanterns are threaded through the main conflict. It’s a race against time with high stakes for the universe.”

Cosmic Visuals

Fernando Pasarin’s art brings the series to life with breathtaking detail. “Fernando’s enthusiasm is unmatched,” Adams said. “He elevates every script, creating a universe that feels lived-in and vibrant.”

Hampton echoed the praise. “Seeing Fernando’s pages is jaw-dropping. He captures our ideas perfectly and often surprises us with how much he adds.”

Honoring the Legacy

Adams and Hampton are mindful of Green Lantern’s rich history. “I’ve been revisiting Marv Wolfman’s Green Lantern Corps and the Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi era,” Adams said. “This series pulls threads forward, celebrating the past while building something new.”

For new readers, the series offers an accessible entry point. “We’ve included a new character to guide readers through the mythos,” Hampton said. “It’s a great jumping-on point that introduces the universe without overwhelming newcomers.”

A Bright Future

Green Lantern Corps is set to be a cosmic adventure filled with action, emotional depth, and plenty of surprises. Adams and Hampton are crafting a story that honors the legacy of the Corps while paving the way for new possibilities. As Adams put it, “This book is for anyone who wants to know what’s happening in DC’s space universe. It’s a love letter to the fans and a celebration of what makes Green Lantern so special.”

Green Lantern Corps #1 arrives in comic book shops on February 12. Stay tuned to AIPT for future coverage of this series!
