Is It Good? My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #11 Review

Toss aside those boring comics about sex, superheroes, graphic violence, harsh language, and sometimes all four of those at once. It’s time for some goddamn ponies! This time around in the main series, we focus our attention on Princess Mi Amore Cadenza and Shining Armor. Is it good?

We all know the story of how Princess Candace and Shining Armor got married (if you haven’t, then go watch the two parter called “A Canterlot Wedding”), but did you know the story about how they first meet and start dating? Well, it all happened inside of a high school comedy from the 80’s…

Where bullies dressed as if they were characters from the 70’s.

Okay, I’ll admit I’m not overly familiar with the classic comedies of the 80’s with teenagers in high school and the John Hughes films, but this story certainly feels like one those films. I would almost say it is parodying or joking about it in a way with how dang silly everything is with the characters, the plot threads, and the situations that happen. I mean the frickin’ jock/bully is the star player of the school’s polo team (remember people, football and basketball? No way, polo impresses the ladies far more). Of course, I could be wrong, but it still doesn’t change how damn funny this comic is.

This arc is brought to us again by Katie Cook and Andy Price, who did the first and last story arcs for the main book. It has all the usual charm that you’ve come to expect from this series, with its great humor, great artwork, and just fun storytelling. All of the main characters for the story are enjoyable and extremely loveable, the jock is hilariously clichéd with all of antics, and the banter between everyone is really good. Basically, if you liked the last arc or this creative team, you’ll like this as well.

  • The story is very enjoyable and familiar in an 80’s sort of way.
  • The artwork and humor is top notch as always.
  • Not for non-fans, as always.
  • Maybe a little too clichéd for its own good?

Is It Good?

I feel like I’m repeating myself every month, but dang it, this is good. This is a great comic with enjoyable humor, good looking artwork, and a fun story to boot! This is highly recommended and should be checked out by every single fan!
