Is It Good? Harley Quinn #6 Review

And we are back with the KGB killin’ Harley Quinn — still helping out a very old and former cyborg secret agent spy who is trying to finish one final mission. What will the unlikely pair experience next in their wacky adventure? Is it good?

Harley Quinn #6 (DC Comics)

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

Harley Quinn and Sy Borgman have crossed off another ex-KGB member from their list and are heading to the local zoo to take out another one. However, they may be getting into some trouble as the rest of the remaining members on their list show up at the zoo to end all of this nonsense.

Never forget the bling! It’s always super important to get it. And so shiny.

Harley Quinn #6 sees the end of the KGB hunting storyline and I’m left a little unsure of what to think.

On the one hand, we had a fun and silly concept for this arc that provided some quirky characters and amusing jokes. On the other hand, the circumstances seem pointless in the grand scheme of things — a distraction from seeing continuation with the hired guns storyline and any continuation with Harley at her different jobs. Heck, the main reason Harley got even involved in this because she thought Sy could help her find out who had been hiring people to kill her, but even that fact is never brought up again between them. The storyline didn’t even provide as much fun or humor that we’ve come to expect from previous issues.

That’s not to say the issue was devoid of anything good. There were still some clever, funny bits throughout the issue that had me chuckling and smiling; the dialogue was good and definitely contributed to the humor, especially with the some of the lines by the older Russians. The pacing, story structure, and flow were all completely fine and the story overall was much more focused than last issue (no jumping around to all sorts of random events like last time around). Also, Sy Borgman as a character still has plenty of potential to be used for future storylines or plots, and there was a good cliffhanger that gives me a lot of hope for the next issue.

I love how the homeless man doesn’t even care about the burning helicopter that could fall on him at any second.

The artwork by Chad Hardin, as usual, is the solid work we’ve come to expect, with a bit of an improvement in some areas. The characters all look good and there are no awkward or weird facial expressions this time around. The action is over the top and the humorous aspects of the artwork are on point with some great background gags, amusing expressions, and great timing and impact. Hardin’s art really bolsters the book’s entertainment value and hopefully it stays this good as time goes on.

Is It Good?

Harley Quinn #6 is an alright issue that closes out an OK storyline that could have been a lot better. There is still good and fun to be had with the issue for sure — however, the sooner it gets away from this subplot and focuses on the hit men and jobs, the better Harley Quinn will be.
