The Verdict
Yes, the resolution was too easy. And yes, the ending was too cheesy. But all in all, this was still a highly enjoyable conclusion (?) to what’s been a fantastic story arc.
For starters, artist Mateus Santolouco does his usually extraordinary work. In addition to a plethora of action sequences, he also gets the opportunity to present a new and truly gruesome side to Bishop.
And speaking of Bishop, there’s no doubt by the end of this that he’s a grade A douchenozzle. Even the other bad guys (who don’t end up being all that bad) seem to realize it. Watching his character arc in conjunction with Leo, who has finally begun to prove himself as a leader separate from Splinter, has been a lot of fun to watch unfold.
I do wish we got some more resolution on Slash’s fate, especially considering how good of character Tom Waltz has molded him into. But this story does deserve a lot of credit for making many of the other underutilized Mutanimals into characters the reader can really latch onto. Let’s hope we get to see much more of them—and high quality stories like this—in the series’ future.
