Okay, so I haven’t read all of the Edge of Venomverse books yet, but I’m convinced that the remaining three issues aren’t going top this one as far as overall entertainment goes. But, regardless of how the next three books are going to compare to this one, let’s look at Edge of Venomverse #2. That is why you’re here, right?

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

What’s Edge of Venomverse #2 about? From the publisher:

“A PINK NIGHTMARE! The wall-breaking wunderkind we call Gwenpool gets ahold of the VENOM SYMBIOTE and turns into a sword-slinging,web-swinging master of disaster! But it won’t all be fun and games when Gwenpool comes across something huge… something that will directly lead to the Venom event of 2017!”

More so than just another solid introductory issue, Edge of Venomverse #2 is entertaining enough to stand on its own as a complete tale. Just like after reading the previous issue of this series, I am eager to sink my teeth into the next book. And speaking of teeth, I don’t know about you, but Gwenompool could pass for Tarkartan. Perhaps it was the combination of the pink spandex and monstrous teeth that had me thinking of Mileena from Mortal Kombat throughout my read…yeah, that was it. Mortal Kombat aside, I loved the venomized Gwenpool look and would certainly like to see more of it.

Despite the killing, this soft and simple story is kind of adorable. I know that calling anything involving Venom adorable is somewhat blasphemous, but, it really is. I read this book with a smile planted firmly on my face, and once I’m finished writing this review, I will more likely than not give it another look.

Christopher Hastings pieced together a tasty script, and Irene Strychalski’s illustrations served as the icing on top. Strychalski’s artwork was playful and lighthearted but effective nonetheless. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what’s to come.
