Ghostbusters: Crossing Over #2 Review

If there’s something strange in your multiverse…

When we last left our Ghostbusters and their interdimensional houseguest, Dr. Jillian Holtzmann, a rogue connection was created between Holtzmann’s hack of the Ghostbusters’ interdimensional travel technology and old faithful, the ghost containment module in their basement.  Holtzmann, mad scientist and genius inventor from the “Answer the Call” Universe has arrived at Ghostbusters HQ, along with Ron Alexander, general ne’er-do-well, to explain her reckless actions. Holtzmann is desperate to reach her own team, but also explore a literal multiverse of opportunities.  The bigger issue at the moment, of course, is the coma that Peter Venkman finds himself in after the explosion.

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

Venkman finds himself in a dreaming world, starting off in the apartment of Dana Barrett, the woman possessed by Zuul in the first film.   Luckily, having an actual ghost on staff can be a real asset, and secretary Jenny Moran jumps in to try and rescue Venkman from his supernatural coma.  The warning they both receive from Pseudo-Dana has to do with the supernatural beings that exist across the dimensions. Looks like reaching out into other dimensions could upset some serious contenders.  Zuul-level apparitions. Bad news for everyone.

Ghostbusters: Crossing Over #2 Review

Writer Erik Burnham and artist Dan Schoening have put together a fun book, combining the disparate groups in the Ghostbusters multiverse — and all their different styles.  I’m interested to see the long-term impact of bringing together so many franchises. I’m old enough the I remember the Ghostbusters/Real Ghostbusters cartoon wars in the 1980s, and seeing Egon with that ridiculous blonde pompadour is a nostalgic rush.

Ghostbusters: Crossing Over #2 Review

With the containment unit breaches and an unknown number of ghosts/psychokinetic energy out in the world, Egon and the crew gather Ghostbusters from across a few dimensions (and comic/cartoon series) including the Extreme Ghostbusters, the Real Ghostbusters, and the Answer the Call teams.  This is going to be big, folks.

This is going to be big, folks.
Pros
Holtzmann is, as always, delightfully insane
Bringing together so many groups of Ghostbusters is going to be fun.
Cons
We're still stuck in exposition phase, but that soon will pass.
